Poison packaging testing

to AS 2216 as required by the Australia Poison Standards issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Testing for industry and consumers

We handle the testing and ensure your packaging is compliant. At the end, you'll receive the test report and letter stating that your packaging meets the design and performance requirements of the Poison standard.

WE TEST POISON PACKAGING

Poison packaging must be correctly tested

The Poison Standards issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration dictates that poison packages must comply with the requirements AS 2216.

Since the poison doesn't affect the packaging's performance requirements, the packaging supplier should ensure that their product is compliant.

WE CONSULT ON POISON PACKAGING MARKINGS

Poison packaging must be correctly marked

The Poison Standards issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration dictates how different poisons need to be marked.

Since the poison affects the packaging markings, the filler of the packaging should ensure that the markings are compliant.

WE CONDUCT CHILD-RESISTANCE TESTING

Child-resistant packagings must be tested

Child-resistant packaging applies to the whole packaging and not just the closure. This means that, generally, different bottles must also be tested in combination with the child-resistant closure.

The test is performed with a human panel of young children and adults. The test requires them to try removing the closure from the packaging within a certain time.

Common poison packaging tests

  • Resistance to thermal shock
  • Internal pressure (hydraulic) test
  • Leakproofness test
  • Resistance to vertical impact
  • Cobb (water absorption) test
  • Handle strength test
  • Determination of toppling resistance
  • Environmental conditioning
